What to tell client about long-term hosting?

I have recently been asked by a client what would happen to their tours if something happened to Matterport in the future and had no idea what to say...can anyone chime in?

  • It's a good question and I don't know the answer.

  • I asked this from Matterport a while ago and they give a pretty ambiguous, roundabout response. They said that as long as you keep paying the subscription, that they will stay live. I then re-asked the question and they said As to the Spaces after such events that Matterport would be dissolved, you own the copyright to the Spaces, but Matterport owns the data. The subscription agreement provides the you with access to the data during the subscription period but not after the subscription expires.

You can find this information in the Spaces Processing and Hosting Terms portion of the TOS in section 3 Ownership and Licenses.  https://matterport.com/legal/terms-of-service-web/

What I take away from this reply is that in the event that Matterport would be dissolved, we are SOL.

  • I have all my models in capture app. You can back them up in iTunes.

If something happens to Matterport, you can bet another company would step up and start processing your models.

Do you think hackers haven't tinkered with the data?
