Bringing Matterport to the UAE

Hello all,

My name is Barry and I purchased my Matterport camera in May this year. In addition to the virtual tours I also professional photography and aerial footage as well as short video clips. Sadly things are not going as planned. It seems that the UAE is not yet ready for virtual tours on a wide scale such as in the U.S.. I am staying positive and I continue to reach out to potential clients as I truly believe that the Matterport virtual tours are an amazing thing.

Looking forward to reading and hopefully helping in this community.

  • Hi @Barry! Thanks for being a pioneer in the UAE. Once you start building momentum and traction, perhaps you can build market dominance from being first to market! I've only been to Dubai once, but I wonder if travel & hospitality vertical may have some interesting opportunities. The Burj Al Arab, being one of the fanciest hotels in the world, would be an amazing scan or the Burj Al Khalifa, as the tallest building in the world. Best of luck and please keep us posted!

  • Hi Sibyl. Thank you. I hope so as I really believe the UAE could truly profit from the Matterport services. Dubai has so many incredible places to visit and is constantly adding more. It is very hard to reach the right people though. I had spoken to the marketing manager from the Burj Al Arab but they already have implemented the google virtual tour on all of the Jumairah Hotels. Personally I don't think it is as good as the Matterport virtual tour. I working hard on get my foot in the door. Fingers crossed.

  • @barry Yes, buildling relationships is the hardest part and getting your foot in the door with the world's fanciest hotel is undoubtedly going to be challenge. Wishing you lots of luck. This is a random crazy idea, but in the past during SXSW, I found it so much easier to walk into hotels and show some impressive models on the Matterport showcase app. In one case, the GM of the JW Marriot in Austin agreed on the spot to let us scan the next morning! =)

  • Hi Barry,

I am doing the same as you in Morocco. Matterport scans are not so easy to sell as a concept (especially to people who are fairly technophobic!). I agree with the person who said about the Showcase app (when it works) as mine has been bugging in the last week.

I am aiming at hotels and real estate agents but here real estate agents are all paranoid as their contracts dont prevent other agencies from marketing the same property. This is a real problem.

Hotels are also not easy to convince as they are still not really aware of the power of a good virtual tour. I think this will change in time.

    Kind regards

    Max

  • Hiya @MaxL! Holy smokes. I just checked out your site and am totally blown away by your scans. Really amazing stuff!! So cool to see the architecture and design of these homes and hotels in Morocco! You raise really legit and good points regarding breaking into Travel and hospitality. I'm hoping we can come up with some really good marketing materials at the start of the new year for MSPs to use in promoting services to hotels and B&Bs, etc. Would you be open to submitting your best scans by filling out this form for us to feature on our Gallery?

Best of luck to you and @barry in the meantime!

    Sibyl
