Improving address entry & location data of a space?

Hi everyone - wanted to ask for some opinions and background on two related topics:

(1) If we made it easier to look up and autocomplete street addresses for a space, are there situations where you would NOT want that to happen? Let's assume you can separate what is shown in Showcase under details versus more detailed information around the space - like a complete street address - that could be kept private if you chose to do so.

(2) If we could capture GPS-related location (to some accuracy) during scanning operations to help improve data about the space, are there situations where you would NOT want that to occur? Assume this would depend on some circumstances - not all iPads can capture location without a network connection, and interior scans would not be super-precise, but could help locating a space.

  • Yes, I foresee where in limited circumstances we might want to keep an address from appearing. There may be cases where in construction there is no address and in some cases where we are showcasing a property where the property owner or others may not want the location to be known.

I do think these are great additions as long as they can be managed by turning them off when necessary.

  • I don't think anyone would reject additional features as long as they are manageable. If the additional features of location capture through GPS or other tech takes away from battery life of my device, I'd turn it off. I really have no issue with entering the address of a scan if it is needed, especially since the customer might want it tailored from that on public records. If you get into the realm of auto-pop from public records (can be pricey I believe), APN is often used.

  • Both airbornejon and mike-1 bring up legitimate concerns/comments. 1.) I definitely think addresses autocompleting is a plus. I wish that it would do the same for 'presented by' since I work with a group of realtors over and over again. I like the ability to have the street address kept private because many of us will be using the model as sales tools and we certainly wouldn't want to infringe on the home owners privacy.

re: 2.) I concur with the 2 previous comments that if they affect battery life (or even some unforeseen hitch) it is nice to be able to turn them off. I'm looking down the road where we can link drone videos or other google street view data thinking that GPS locations would be a nice feature.

    Just my 2 cents

  • With any enhancement, the ability to turn on /off, drop down menu, etc. is always beneficial to address various current and unanticipated future needs. Being able to set parameters by account, by folder, by model is also beneficial.

In situations I do not want the autocomplete for addresses(rare?), I could revise the data fields manually if needed.

With GPS, the capability to capture that data is interesting, especially in light of the retail industry embracing it for marketing within stores. I usually scan with no network connection, but can add that or use my phone hotspot.

  • I'm all for it. This could be used in a lot of application.

  • Thanks for the feedback everyone - really appreciate your insight and concerns, especially where we can improve repetitive data entry/auto-complete.
