I would like to see a portals feature much like the Mattertag feature where you can link models through a portal.

I think it would be a great idea for Matterport to add a portal feature where we can put an icon or sphere or circle in a model to lead to another sphere or circle in another model to allow the user to 'travel' from one model to another. This would allow us to create fluid large models.

  • Hi @jrbatchelor,

Sorry for the late reply to your question. Let me know if I misunderstood what you're asking for, but if I didn't, we have what you're describing.

First, you need the link to where the portal ends up in the loaded Space. Meaning, when this link is used, the Space is loaded and a very specific, predefined location becomes the starting point. To get this, you need to use 3D Showcase. Load the Space you want and navigate to the spot you want the link to end up. Be sure to pan the camera to see what you want the link to show when used. Meaning, every degree you pan or tilt the camera will generate a slightly different link. Once you have the position set, press the "U" key on your keyboard. A green link will appear in the top, right corner of the Space. Copy the entire link. This is a deep link into the Space.

Go to the other Space where you want to paste the deep link and open Workshop. You'll have to create a Mattertag Post since that's the only place you can add links to anything. Add the Mattertag Post where you'd want the visitor to enter the "portal" and in the Description field, you can add the deeplink.

When the visitor clicks the Mattertag Post in the first Space and uses the deeplink, the linked Space is loaded and they start from exactly where you were when you pressed the "U" key.

    I hope that helps.
