Connecting Stairs Both Ways

Did a property today and I can walk up the stairs from the basement into the first floor but can't walk from the first floor down the basement stairs. Anyway to correct this? Did have a notice for the first scan on the new floor that it was connected but not a lot of overlap. Also after the first scan on the new floor closed the door to the basement as that was the best approach as did the rest of the house.

Any help appreciated.

This is almost more of a question than an answer.

You know how you can go to the 2nd floor and do a "U" and get the the location?

and if you're in the basement by the other side of the door... do the 'u' and get the URL

I'm wondering if you put a mattertag out side that basement door on either side .. and the person could click and get from the 1st floor to the 2nd?

Has anyone else tried that? Does it work? That might be a way to not have to go back and reshoot on the 2nd floor with the door left open? Anybody else think that might work?

I am not sure if this will work for you but it is worth a try. I had to do this on two different occasions in the last few weeks.

Go into your capture app and make a copy. Next open model up of the copy and use your fingers to enlarge they picture, just like you would to see a website bigger on cell phone. Hit Mark features and select trim tool. Mark the doorway with arrow pointing in on both sides of the door. So you will have two trim lines with arrow pointing at each other on both sides of the door frame. Upload model again and hopefully it works.

I thought it was just me but this worked on both of my models. Please let us know if it works for you.

  • Wow @justincolbyvaughn I knew about this 'trick' but hadn't used and promptly forgot about it.

  • @justincolbyvaughn Hey, if you have a minute will you try something? I added the mattertags to my model.. I can get back and forth .. can you in my model? http://fivedmedia.com/3d-model/manderfield-canyon-road-santa-fe-nm/skinned/ .. Mine is not a better option .. but it appears to work.

  • Thanks Lisa and Justin. Being new to Matterport wasn't familiar with either of these options. Lisa is there a place I can find more info on your suggestion. Not sure what you are saying. I will let you know how it goes.

  • @overandabovephoto Here are two sources:

    1. Matterport Support on how to do a Mattertag : https://matterport.com/blog/2016/03/29/introducing-mattertag-posts/

    2. Vimeo video by Matterport on how to use the links: https://vimeo.com/191057855

Good Luck - be sure and let everyone know how it goes and reach out if you get stuck!

  • I'm removing my mattertag links in and out of the closet now.. just put them in to see if it would really work. @Matterport-Scott .. you originally shared @Bill 's tips on the closet peeks. Thank you again for that.

I can move around. It is just one story, correct? I saw the mattertags at and in the closet. The one in the closet is exactly what I was talking about. It is like two scans meet but not really. You can tell the mattertag isn't round. I would bet if you put that trim on both sides of door frame, it would work.

Did someone say they couldn't move around? I did a monster house and the realtor claims she can't maneuver it but everyone else can!

  • No one said they couldn't move - I just wanted a second opinion. Weird how sometimes there is an outlier that can't make things work. I know of your solution and almost 100% it works also! Thanks for bringing it back up as it jogged my memory!

No problem. I hope you get it figured out. The first time that happened to me, I spent the better part of the day trying to figure it out and I finally found it on here. That is when I started answering questions instead of just reading them. I knew that someone would need to know something I figured out and I am benefitting from others with the knowledge they share!

  • Lisa. I understand the adding of links to mattertags. What I don't understand is the "u" to get the URL. Not sure what you mean by that.

  • @justincolbyvaughn and @lisa hinson. Tried both trimming and the Mattertag suggestions and both work as you explained. Thanks for those tips. I gather however making these changes results in it being considered another model and basically get to start all over again with customizing it and get to pay for another upload even though I changed only one thing. Bit of a bummer.

You do not get charge for another upload if you edit something.

I did not walk thru your model until later but I knew it would work. You can tell when there should be scan circles and you cannot see them.

Both ways work but I would not use the tags unless there was no other way. The trim trick makes it work how it is suppose to work.

I had a big house with a courtyard you entered thru and the guest house was out there. I had to figure out how to scan about 2,000 sq ft outdoors and enter the guest house. I used the tags first and the realtor flipped out!

  • Good to hear concerning the charge for the edited model. It is too bad I need to customize again. Not terrible but takes some time. Maybe I'm missing something with that.

    What kind of customizing?

Do you give your client the generated link?

I use WP3D models, so I can edit models and change it out on backend without having to give them a new link. You can find out about it on 3rd party tab on the homepage.

One more thought for you, if someone doesn't pay you, you can always edit the scan and delete the old link so they cannot unless they pay.

  • I'm talking changes I make in Workshop. Like starting point, highlight reel and tour. They aren't passed over from the original.

My clients get direct links to the models (both branded and unbranded) as well as the model embedded in a webpage as shown in this case. http://greatdigitalpics.com/newpages/11homestead/index.html

Will have to look at WP3D to see if it is something I can use. Does it work on Mac?

  • I use WP3D and then buy a domain and forward it. If you used that, you can put a slideshow on the website, so I don't use the highlight reel unless something is hard to figure out. The only requirement is a word press site that allows plugins. They have a workaround, so don't let that hold you back.

  • Hey Lisa, your model called Manderfield Canyon road is stunning. Do you mind if I contact you through your web site? I'd like to ask you a few questions about that presentation. This forum doesn't seem like the right place to do that. Thank you much.
