For a given snapshot, we need to be able to set 1.) the pan direction, 2.) speed of sweep and 3.) sweep angle via the workshop mode.

In no way should it be dependent on the following scan as those may get moved about as you edit the slideshow, thus possibly reversing the sweep. It's such a horrible thing that it would be better if it were only one-direction. Trial and error is the way I can best describe it at this juncture even taking the blog description into account. If you need some help with programming, I may be willing to help as it is driving me crazy. That's how bad I want to take this problem off of the table. Thanks!

  • Hi @mrichardson3,

I agree that some control should be available in the Highlight reel tool, maybe hidden under an "Advanced" button - I'm not sure. But, the pan direction should be able to be predicted and the time spent at each Snapshot position can be set with the parameter "&st=x" (x being the time in milliseconds). I completely agree and understand that if the Highlight reel is changed it can alter the pan direction, which is frustrating. But in my own opinion, and I believe this is the reason the pan is in the direction of the following Snapshot, it would be a little more jarring if you pan to the left, for example, and then have to pan all the way back to the right to go to the next scan position. For that reason, I think the final guided tour is a bit smoother if you pan in one direction and then just continue in that direction to the next position.

I assume you've seen this article about the pan logic. Of course, I still agree some advanced settings in the Highlight Reel tool would be a big help for many users. I'll be happy to advocate for you and the more likes we can get here the better :)

  • One additional clarification I'd like to make, Adjusting the speed of all sweeps (i.e. &St=x") doesn't work very well at all. In snapshots where you are in close quarters, the camera head needs to pan much slower than if you are looking at a landscape. In some of my highlight reels, I find the sweep speed is sometimes perfect and at other times dizzying. Until the user has the option to set 1.) the starting position of the scan, 2.) the direction and total angle that the camera head will pan through and 3.) the length of time to accomplish that scan, I would prefer/propose that all scans only go in one direction independent of the next scan's position. I have a tendency to use the slideshow mode for my highlight reels which does a fade-to-black between image changes so herky/jerky is not a problem for me. I've read the article referenced above and when you are moving from one floor to another, it really is unknowable which way a snapshot is going to pan. Please see if this idea of only one direction can be used as a stopgap measure for those that might like to try it out.

  • Thank you very much for the thoughtful feedback and I will certainly bring up the option to have it only pan in one direction. It's all a work in progress and this is exactly what we're looking for to continue developing and making it better for everyone.

    Thanks,

    Amir

  • Any further development on the start position, stop position and speed of sweep for the highlight reel? I'm also wondering what programming language you're using to write the authoring software? Maybe, the matterport community can help you guys out. Not having any control over these parameters is really preventing me from putting together a professional presentation for my client. Is the codebase on github? I would be willing to help if you speak python or at least have an api that python can access and manipulate.

  • I wish I could be of more help with this one. The word about and interest in this feature has certainly made an impact. I honestly have no idea what language is used to develop the Workshop application, but I don't think any of it is on Github at this time. I think once this is put into the production pipeline, the product manager will need to have full control over all aspects of the tool in order to optimize it for everyone's needs and requirements.

  • Hi @mrichardson3

This product suggestion has been made previously (at least most of it). Please vote for the suggestions! To add your voice to the requirement.

  • The Workshop application is built on the Unity Engine I think so I'd think this functionality could be added reasonably straightforwardly but could become complex when you have a large number of snapshots in a tour.

  • Another consideration with this feature is that in order to implement, it would necessitate the ability to preview the highlight reel functionality -- which is not IN Workshop. Replicating it would take a bit of time and turn this 'simple' request into a bit more of a complicated one.

  • Yes, thanks @simonmodera. If we get all the likes on a single post, that would be easiest to track and act upon.

    Thanks.

  • I made this exact request a few months ago. Controlling the direction and amount of sweep would drastically improve this feature.

It's a camera. Any photographer with a dslr understand the importance of composition. Not being able to control the composition....well...not much of a camera is it?
