Restore "Make this the Thumbnail image" please !!

Hi everybody !

I create this post to get Matterport to reposition the "Make this the Thumbnail image" function. This function is essential for me, there are already requests on other posts of the forum but no reaction !

A few days ago, I was still able to get around the concern (fault in the code?). But now, many of my spaces start on a 360 ° picture, really not great when someone clicks to visit ...

Thanks for restoring this feature!

  • I AGREE! I didn't even know this change occurred on existing models!  All my models are opening up in a 360, which is quite confusing for new users.

No only should you restore the thumbnail option being different than start location IMMEDIATELY, but I'd like to see the ability to use a jpeg as the thumbnail/hero shot.

PLEASE, MATTERPORT, DON'T MAKE THESE CHANGES WITHOUT NOTIFYING US!  Now, I have to go back into each model! UUGGHH!

  • I had previously commented on this but now I've updated as I now understand the concern. What is going on Matterport - my models have also update to a 360 view - can you please resolve this ASAP.

  • This is a bit silly guys and a no-brainer - with the complexity of your system if you can't resolve a simple thing like this (that's been dragging on for months) then it's time to call it a day. We need a separate location (or method) for the 'Hero' image and  a separate location (or method) for the starting location - not exactly rocket-science is it???  I don't want to have to spend time re-editing my work (although I know the way around the bug) Please just sort this out.

  • Hi Everyone,

I'm really sorry for the lag in my response and thank you for reminding me about this thread.

The issue you're referring to is the current inability to set a "Hero" image that is different from the start position for the Space itself.  The problem is what most see as a bug is actually the way the tool was initially intended to work.  The fact that you could set a separate hero image was the bug, which is now fixed.

The new problem is that some of our users were quite happy with that bug and, in fact, saw it as a feature. Now what we all need to do is get as many users as possible together to weigh in so the feature request to have this added Workshop or the Space page will get noticed by our product team.

Let's get as many votes as possible on this.

I hope that helps better explain why this "feature" no longer exists. Thanks for your understanding and I really hope we can get you a feature to solve this problem as soon as possible.

  • Hey guys,
What's going on? Why can't we have the option to make our thumbnail image (from a 360) our hero image and have the start Location A DIFFERENT PLACE inside the structure?
Why would you take away an option- especially WITHOUT INFORMING US!
I had to go back into all of my models and move the start location inside to avoid user confusion!
    Please, please restore this ASAP!

  • Hi Amir, If that was the bug bring back the bug - but make it a bit more intuitive - all I can say is that I really cant understand why any user wouldn't want the option of having the different stages. 3 boxes in Workshop (don't care what you call them 1/2/3 to make it simple) and you simply drop your snapshots in - whether that be dollshouse, 360 or inside views.

Considering the amount of development I believe Matterport is involved in this is like designing and building an F1 car and then you later fit square wheels on it and then when your driver is complaining and asking for the round ones to be put back on you are questioning the response. Who are these people that don't want this feature- I'm bemused:)

  • Hi @Sitimms,

You're absolutely right and I don't think the problem is that some users are not interested in having this feature.  The problem comes down to resources.  The product and dev teams at most companies are stretched about as thin as possible and creating a feature such as this may seem elementary compared to what they've already done, it still requires a good amount of time to make sure it's developed in the best way possible.

We hear you loud and clear and I know we won't have any disappointed users contacting us with concerns about why we added this new feature :)

We're doing everything we can to push this feature into the production pipeline asap and it always helps to show the team the amount of feedback we're getting about a particular feature to give them a more complete picture of just how important it is to our customer.  I wish they would just take my word for it and build everything I suggest.  Unfortunately, they want more :(

    Thanks for your understanding.

  • This is a top line issue. It's so basic and fundamental - time needs to be allocated/prioritized. The is the equivalent of McDonald's not serving fries.

  • Please please bring the bug back. My customers are screaming for it.

It makes no sense- a realtor (UK estate agent) usually wants to show the OUTSIDE of a house as the thumbnail. It's the whole picture right there. Often the best view.

BUT outdoor scans are just 360s so the user is "stuck" unless they click on the highlight reel. (And I for one don't light highlight reels: they occupy screen space and distract from the VR experience).

The fix is simple... find the clover developer who "fixed" the bug and ask them to unfix it.

Come on Matterport, you really shouldn't tell us how hard it is to reverse a software fix (unless of course, you don't know how you fixed it). Unimpressive.

  • COME ON!!! This is crazy!  Our company website is designed for all these lovely exteriors to be the thumbnail.  Now, new users CAN'T ENTER THE HOUSE, if they can't figure out a way around!  This make YOUR TECHNOLOGY CONFUSING!

And please don't tell me what the thumbnail should be, or that it was a bug!  It worked before - so BRING IT BACK!

    INSANE, MATTERPORT! INSANE!

  • Is there any update on this yet Matterport? This is getting ridiculous as we've been asking for a fix for months now!
