The Freelance Union - Resource for Independent Contractors, Self-Employed, Part-Timers

The Freelance Union

My sense of the membership in this community is that many of us are self-employed, freelancers or independent contractors and would like a resource to help us grow our businesses. I think the Freelancers Union has some great attributes that may be of interest. Plus, membership is FREE. Right now it is a United States organization. (But if those outside the U.S have interest, I encourage contacting them directly to let them know)

Per their website:

Nearly one in three working Americans is an independent worker. That's almost 54 million people – and growing. At Freelancers Union, we strive to make freelancing better now and in the future through joint benefits, live member events, expert guides, and online networking opportunities.

Freelancers Union gives independent workers a powerful voice through political action, research, and thought leadership. We aim to ensure that independent contractors receive adequate rights, protections and professional benefits.

Members of Freelancers Union play an active role in leading community initiatives and advocacy campaigns. We’re a community that looks out for one another – and we’re only as strong as our members.

ALSO - please see my post under 'General & Off Topic' to read a speech given yesterday about the 'Gig' economy. It's by Lael Brainard, a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. She discusses the 'gig economy' and its future. An excellent read for us 'giggers'.

  • Thanks for the post @Bill! It's true, the economic landscape is shifting in such a way that there are far more freelancers and independent contractors than before. For MSPs that fall in this category, I would love to hear what resources they have found particularly helpful.
