What are your initial impressions of 360° Views?

Today, we launched 360° Views, enabling you to capture outdoor imagery with your Matterport camera! See an intro video and try out demo models here.

Want to start creating 360° Views? You'll need the latest version of Matterport Capture (version 2.2). Here's all the documentation to get your started!

Once you've tried it out, let us know what you think. We did a lot of user research and testing, but we want to know from you:

  • What's it like using 360° Views for the first time?
  • What's great? What is confusing, or difficult?
  • How would YOU like to see us improve it?

Let us know below! Or, if you have a big new feature idea, start your own conversation in Product suggestions.

  • Hi there @3Dvirtueletour! Right now we don't have a way to download the 360 panorama imagery. I'm not sure if this is what your'e after, but you might check out our VR programs.

If you're after the 360 panorama imagery specifically, vote for the product feature here.

  • An upload without a 3D scan could be a nice feature for "just outdoor-sessions" or "quick tours" where 3D is not necessary or the client can´t afford a full 3D shot.

What makes me very happy is the new firmware and stitching improvements. THANKS and HUGS to your developer team.

  • I'm out of the area and haven't had the chance to test it yet, but am really looking forward to it. It opens up some many more opportunities within and outside of real estate.

  • The new Unity Workshop seems still to be buggy. When I try to access a 360 view via click - nothing happens. It happened one time from 1000 tries the 360 view loaded. OSX 10 & Firefox latest.

  • Clicking n-times very fast on the 360 view name changes the view. not really good UX, but works. On Window 10 much better than on my Macbook.

  • Hi Scott ( @MP-Scott ) , Thank you. I am glad Matterport have expanded the capability. To be frank however, it seems a bit obscure for the user. The value would come to us in being able to 'download' and present separately from the 3D Dollshouse and as a 'marketing tease hook' in social media with links back to our website which contains the showcase link for the full 3D dollshouse etc. I know it cannot be included in the 3D but the tour should allow auto play of each 360 (and turn em around) placed in the highlight reel. Oh, and again, it needs branding watermark capability for photographer and client (realtor / prop mgr).

  • Tagging would also be nice to have a custom UX/UI for the viewer.

  • Unfortunately there are still some stitching errors and no options to fix them. This is a feature MP customers really would be happy for to boost their business.

  • It would be nice if there could be some way to present an object, like a MatterTag circle, that would move to the 360 area and then back to the 3D model so there would be no need to rely on the tour feature.

  • Hi @Marcus Morba, please note this community is public for viewing (private only for posting). Just wanted to make sure you're aware before you post anything super-private.

  • @Marcus Morba, can you show me a couple of the stitching errors? I looked at https://my.matterport.com/models/cEjcG5hRWHs, and the only one I could see was on a palm tree, where I *believe* the leaves were moving. Obviously, if there is a moving object, it will be in different positions when the camera captures, rotates, and captures, which would create the seams you may be seeing.

Or, are you referring to something else that I may be missing? Seams in the Capture app, or other stitching issues?

Just trying to make sure I understand what you're observing. Thank you!

  • Hi there @Marcus Morba! Could you trying your cache and reloading? If you're still seeing the error, please let us known at support.matterport.com! Thanks!

  • Thank you @simonmodera, very much appreciate the notes! We are looking to build off what is there now, and smooth any sharp edges, so this is great!

  • I know that this community is public. I just wanted to ask for the favor not to post the model on communities like Facebook, Twitter etc.

  • Hi Scott, will send screens and details to the support. The leaves did not move, but these errors are ok for me. The big problem are the metal guardrails e.g. the 21st & 22nd (the one with the red yellow bloom) 360° capture in the highlights.

  • @Marcus Morba, great, thank you (and apologies for the issue)! Support.matterport.com is the place, you are correct. :-)

  • All in all I love the feature cause it enables very fast capturing for huge spaces with small budgets. Especially art projects will be happy for that.

  • I have tried it and like it. My issue is, I can only use 5 or 6 images because that's all the highlight reel allows. So I can't 360 an entire home or business. Same with the 3D scans. It only allows 7 images. We need to be able have as many as is needed or it will be useless. Please allow more images

  • Just got back from a week away and included 360 in both scans I did today. They worked well and were easy to capture. This feature came just in time for one as it has a lower room accessible only from the exterior, and too far/difficult to capture in the Space. After re-reading the documentation, taking a pic and adding to the Highlight Reel is straight forward.

I did add an MTag to bring attention to the Reel as my concern is a viewer may not watch the Reel and/or click on the 360 Views.

I agree with being able to download the 360 Views. I have a few complexes/communities I regularly shoot and being able to download common area 360 Views, and then UPLOAD to new Spaces would be great.

  • There is a problem when I try to get the direct link to a 360° View: for example, in the sample "Family Home in the Woods" space, if I go to one of the available 360° Views (I've tried with Patio), and click the "u" key to get the link, I get this:

    https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=wpUhyZx1wMc&start=1,587311ee31b242f0a453cd8bf93f19e6,0.0000,-5.0000,0.0000,-0.0965,-0.7533,-0.1135,0.6405

But if you test it, you can see it brings you inside the house.

  • This seams to be working really well, i was able to demonstrate to a customer just how good his space would look with one 360 view, After processing the customers was over the moon, and i won the job to scan out the whole venue.

It would be good if i could just do a hand full of images and process them without doing any scanning, (unless i missed something i need to publish a 3d modle to publish more than one image, and you can't process it unless it uless you have 3d data in you project) this little bit extra would complete the tool and add so much more versatility to it.
