Please can we get a choice of Mattertag icons.

@MP-Scott

The current Mattertag icon was designed to stand out; and wow, it does just that!!! This may sound minor but I have already had 3 comments about the current tag.

Please can we get some mattertag icon options. In some spaces we need something quite a bit more subtle both in size, shape and colour options. Some ideas:

1. A simple 'i' for information. Simple outer edge circle - choice of colours (black on white, white on black, black on yellow, blue on white, red/maroon on white, black on silver/gold, yellow on dark brown)

2. An arrow with 8 directions on a square (representing click to go elsewhere in the model). Simple outer edge border. Same colours as above.

3. Two links in a chain icon on a hexagon shape (representing click to go to another model). Same colours with outer edge border.

4. All of the above in current size and 2/3rds to 3/4 size.

  • Choice of 8 directions (up, up-right, right, down-right, down, down-left, left, up-left). Give a sense of which way the link will take you.

  • Very cool idea, @simonmodera! I've flagged this for the team here, would love to see other users' thoughts/opinions on the above, too!

  • Actually was thinking in the same direction but, kind of limited myself to color choices for the pins. May be easier implementation.

  • Flat Mattertags that look like the circle at the base of the Mattertag that you see when you are in the process of placing a Mattertag. It would need to be able to expand and reduce in size like the stem on the Mattertag. Also, you would need to be able to rotate the graphic by degrees within the dot. This could be useful if you allowed a graphic upload much like our photo icons to the left of our posts. This way we could upload what ever we wanted, including advertising. My main purpose is for large scans, we need some way of leading the user through the space. You could call them Matterdots.

  • Ah, so is part of the goal to help direct the user through the model? Thanks for the mock-up, @jrbatchelor.

  • May we add / merge these ideas. A 5th type of tag - (showing direction but with no link). @jrbatchelor Would you mind two options here: Very clear like your example and something a lot more subtle transparent like the scan circles?

  • this sounds great and will be a huge improvement, also have the team look into a way to get back from a 360 view into the 3D tour, please,

  • One of the goals could be for direction. You could have a standard arrow version, a text version, or an image version. It could be placed on walls, floors, or ceilings. This would allow for branding within the models, directions on how to get through the model, and descriptions that stay in place without having to hover. If they were clickable you could do something like this. I just noticed another comment about the unsubtle nature of my drawings, agreed they are. These mockups were completed very quickly and are for ideas only, think mind mapping.

  • Absolutely, this started out with your idea I'm just coattailing on it. So you would want a transparent circle with just the arrow?

  • There is also postings under Product Suggestions for this. Here is a sample of Anthropologie in a 2D environment.

  • @bill I like the looks of the little Purchase tag that is there. I know some retailers that would go nuts over that. I guess we could do it with Mattertags linking back to the retailers website for now, but I could see where information tags and the like would be great. That is why I thought being able to upload a graphic and then being able to size and rotate the graphic along with adding a link would work well. Then we could customize the tags to the clients needs.

  • I'm not sure I like the directional buttons. They would have to be dynamic based on the orientation of the camera; development wise I wouldn't want this to be a priority. If you are trying to guide a user through a tour why not use the Walkthrough (yes you'd have to expose them to the mesh) or the Featured images timeline. The chain icon seem like a cool idea and could automatically be assigned to any Mattertag that has a URL. I'd be happy with just scalability and opacity sliders for the current Mattertags. I actually recently used a Mattertag to cover a light switch without a cover hah!

  • @Antonio Orlando mentioned a similar idea that these could be used to solve. Workshop: create "walk-allowed" segments by "connecting" pairs of scans

@MP-Scott I believe this capability could solve a lot of MSP requests, especially if they could be implemented some how in the 360 views. I understand they (the 360 views) are not an integrated part of the "model" due to the nature of the tech, but could we have a spot at the bottom of the 360 where the user could click and it return to the previous view within the model? Jeeze that is a tough one technically.

  • I wanted to add a secondary use for the flat matterdot: Blurring effect or sensitive material covering. This would be a great way for us to blur sensitive things in the scans. I.E. House numbers of surrounding properties, license plates of vehicles.... The problem with this idea is it may not transfer over to the VR versions of the models. Either way I think it could be utilized for that purpose.

  • This is a great idea! It would make these tours more like what can be created with Panotour or 3dvista.
