Known Issues: Matterport Capture for iOS

The table below will explore all of the known issues with the current release of Matterport Capture for iOS.

We will release fixes for these first in our on-going public beta channel - check out matterport.com/beta if you want to participate. We'll follow that up by a production release via the iOS App Store.

General issues

1

Capture crashes more frequently.

Affected versions: Capture 4.0.0, 4.0.1 using any connected camera or iPhone/iPad capture method. More frequent when using 360° cameras and larger jobs on iOS devices that have less RAM, especially 2GB devices like the iPad Air 2 or iPhone 6S.

Implication(s): It will take longer to complete your scans, especially large scans. A crash could trigger issues 2 and 3 in the table below.

Workaround(s): A set of fixes will come bundled into Capture 4.0.2. For larger jobs, it is possible to stitch together different scans, but you will need to send a stitch request to customer support to get this done. Keep in mind, our support queue is very large at the moment.

A more extreme alternative involves reverting to a prior version of Capture, though this requires a clean install of the older version (3.0.10) via Test Flight. Learn how to revert to a previous version of capture here

2

Sporadically a 3D scan will suddenly take an unusually long time to align.

Affected versions: Capture 4.0.0, 4.0.1 using any connected camera or iPhone/iPad capture method.

Implication(s): It will be more time consuming to complete your scan jobs, especially large ones. This may be followed by or have been preceded by a crash of Capture.

Workaround(s): A fix is expected in Capture 4.0.2. Until this is available, continue scanning as best as you can. Starting a new scan job, with overlap with the first, may be an option on larger jobs.
3

The Minimap view is blank &/or the “updating map” message remains for a long time

While opening a prior scan job or adding to an existing job, the bird’s eye view of the scans and their numbered location markers is blank. A message at the top “updating map” may or may not appear for a long time.

Affected versions: Capture 4.0.0, 4.0.1 using any connected camera or iPhone/iPad capture method.

Implication(s): Your scan data is still there, but an error has occurred migrating from an older method of generating this view. You will not be able to accurately place trim or mirror/window markers to finalize your job. You can upload this job and it will process successfully - this is a local issue to the iOS device.

Workaround(s): A fix is expected in Capture 4.0.2. Until this is available, the job can be uploaded for processing.
4

Black pixels may overwrite completed portions of the minimap after a new 3D scan completes alignment.

This appears to remove portions of a preview on the minimap and replace them with black pixels. The pattern is a bit random and may appear like spray or scratches.

Affected versions: Capture 4.0.0, 4.0.1 using any connected camera or iPhone/iPad capture method.

Implication(s): This is a cosmetic symptom - it does not affect the quality of the scan job. You can upload this job and it will process successfully - this is a local issue to the iOS device.

Workaround(s): A fix that prevents this from occurring is expected in Capture 4.0.2. Until this is available, the job can be uploaded for processing.

Matterport for iPhone issues

5

A blurry section appears in the model imagery, appearing to replace one of the shots taken during a rotation.

Affected versions: Capture 4.0.1 when capturing with the iPhone/iPad camera in either Simple or Complete mode.

Implication(s): Poor imagery from that scan location.

Workaround(s): A fix that prevents this from occurring is in Capture 4.0.2. Until this is available, use the “Complete Scan” method that involves taking 3 rings of captures per scan.

BLK360 issues

6

Capture reports that the BLK360 has disconnected, but the iOS WiFi control panel shows that it remains connected.

For Capture 3.0.x, the Camera Disconnected state appears, but the transfer progress bar continues. If you wait, in many instances the transfer and alignment of the scan will succeed.  For Capture 4.0.x, there is no Camera Disconnected message but the live shutter button for iPhone or iPad Capture appears. If you wait, the scan may successfully transfer and align, but there is no progress bar.

Affected versions: Capture 4.0.x and 3.x. when capturing with the Leica BLK360 in any scanning mode.

Implication(s): Increased time to capture a space and requires retaking any lost scans.

Workaround(s): Once this occurs, you must kill Capture (double tap, swipe Capture up) and then restart it to allow it to recognize the connected BLK360 and take the next scan.
