Measure in Edit Mode

You can use the measurement tool to find the dimensions of objects and rooms. Though will be able to see each of these measurements inside Edit Mode, they will not appear in 3D Showcase mode - to see the measured dimensions, you'll have to switch to Dollhouse or Floorplan View.

Instructions 

I. Measure an Object 

  1. Go to my.matterport.com. 

  2. Select the Space you'd like to take measurements of. 
  3. Switch to Edit mode.
    • To do this, click the pencil iconScreen_Shot_2019-06-18_at_10.01.35_AM.png at the top-left corner of the window.
  4. Click on the "Measurements" iconScreen_Shot_2019-06-27_at_2.24.09_PM.png in the toolbox to the right.
  5. In the pop-up window, click the blue "Add" button.
    • This will convert your cursor into a placement sphere. 
  6. Click once to choose the starting point of your measurement.
    • Once the first click has been initiated, your icon will create a yellow line that will run parallel to the lines in the room or object.
  7. Click a second time to end your measurement - your measurement will be visually represented in two ways.Screen_Shot_2019-06-27_at_12.50.25_PM.png
    • As a yellow line between the two measurement points. 
    • In the Measurements tab to the right of the 3D Showcase. 
  8. Click again to start a third measurement. 

Hit the "Escape" key at any time to stop creating new measurements.

II. Measure Rooms 

  1. Go to my.matterport.com. 
  2. Select the Space you'd like to take measurements of. 
  3. Switch to Edit mode.
    • To do this, click the pencil icon at the top-left corner of the window.
  4. Click on the "Measurements" icon in the toolbox to the right.
  5. In the pop-up window, click the blue "Add" button. 
  6. Switch to Floorplan View.

    • Click on one side of the room, then drag the yellow line across to the other side and click again.
  8. Your measurement will be visually represented in two ways.
    • As a yellow line between the two measurement points. 
    • In the Measurements tab to the right of the 3D Showcase. 

Matterport will automatically straighten the line to be perpendicular to the walls - this helps with accuracy and saves time.

III. Manage Measurements 

Measurements you've taken, whether you were in 3D Showcase, Dollhouse, or Floor Plan Views, will appear in the Measurements window that pops up as soon as you click on the Measurement icon in the toolbox.

  1. Go to my.matterport.com. 
  2. Select the Space you'd like to take measurements of. 
  3. Switch to Edit mode.
    • To do this, click the pencil icon at the top-left corner of the window.
  4. Click on the "Measurements" icon in the toolbox to the right.
  5. Differentiate between Dollhouse and Floorplan Views.
    • Each of your measurements will have a corresponding icon that indicates whether you can view the measurements in either Dollhouse or Floorplan views.
  6. Give your measurements a name.
    • Click the actual measurement number (i.e. 9.05 m) in the Measurements window to name your measurement.
    • This only works in Floorplan View. 
  7. Hide or delete your measurement.
    • Click the ellipses icon - you will be given the option to either hide or delete your measurement.
