|Scanning large, empty spaces (10,000 ft² to 25,000 ft², or 930 m² to 2325 m²) is possible with special scanning techniques.|
You can also scan spaces larger than 25,000 ft², such as a:
- Single floor of a skyscraper
- Large parking structure
- Large museum
First, divide the property into regions. Each region is a single Matterport Space that will be scanned and processed separately.
Then add links in Mattertag™ Posts to connect the regions together.
For example, consider this empty floor in a skyscraper.
Separate into Regions and Scan
Make a plan on how you will separate the space into regions or quadrants.
Mark the boundaries visually on site. For example, use spray paint on the ground or signs to mark each region.
Your landmarks should be clear and visible.
Scan as you would normally. Use the special techniques for large, empty spaces.
|Take into account the time it takes to scan and the battery life of the camera. You may have to return on a second day. If you have an assistant with a second camera, you can assign them a region to scan.|
|Large models (more than 100 scans) will take longer to process and count as two Spaces in terms of processing costs.|
Consider Using 360º Views
Some properties are better suited for a 360º View instead of a 3D Scan. These are places that are empty and wide-open, but still where someone might want to stand.
For example, consider a baseball field. Everywhere a player stands on the field (pitcher’s mound, shortstop, etc) is a great spot for a 360º View. Audience seating, concession stands, and even the baseball field's perimeter are good for a 3D Scan.
If you want to truly simulate “running the bases” or if you want a good Dollhouse view of the field, then you’ll have to 3D Scan the entire field. You will need to add 3D objects since a baseball field is mostly flat and empty.
Use Links in Mattertag™ Posts to Connect Regions
|Remember to do all your basic edits in Workshop and make the Space public.|
First, connect Region A to Region C. Then repeat this process at every boundary point.
To do so, open Region C in 3D Showcase. Go to the boundary point with Region A. Refer to your original plan and the landmarks in the location.
Pan (rotate) your view so you are looking into Region C. This is so when you click the link in Region A to go to Region C, your viewpoint remains the same.
In 3D Showcase (not in Workshop), press the key on your keyboard. Click the copy button to copy the link. This link will take you to that exact position in the Space with that exact camera position.
Now open a new tab or window in your web browser. Launch Region A in Workshop. Create a Mattertag™ Post in Region A at the boundary between A and C.
In the "Details" text area type “Go to Region C”. Turn it into a link by highlighting it and pressing the link button located at the bottom-right corner of this field. For the URL, paste in the long link recently copied from 3D Showcase.
Click Done in the Asset Editor. Click Publish in the top-right to apply your changes.
Now repeat this process but in reverse. That is, open Region A in 3D Showcase, go to the boundary, look inside, and copy the deep link (access link by using the "U" key on the keyboard). Then, open Region C in Workshop, go to the boundary, make a Mattertag™ Post, and paste the link.
Repeat this process at all boundaries. For the skyscraper example, you’ll have eight Mattertag™ Posts, two in each Space.
Before you share with your intended audience, verify that all your links work.
Open Region A (or your start region) in Matterport Cloud. Copy the unbranded link. The link should look like this:
Open a new tab or window on your browser. Paste the link and press Enter.
Explore to make sure the links at the boundaries all work as expected. Return to Workshop and modify if necessary.
