What do I need for Virtual Reality?

You need three things to use Matterport VR:

  • Virtual reality headset
  • Smartphone
  • Matterport VR app (download for offline viewing) OR stream online through browser with WebVR

  • Chrome web browser, version 58 or higher. Type chrome://version in search bar to see your version.
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop or newer. Find your current Android version.
  • Android 5.0 and 6.0 require Google VR Services from the Play Store. Not necessary for Android 7.0 or higher.
  • Support for WebVR on iOS coming soon.

Virtual Reality Headset

Matterport supports the following headsets:

We recommend the Daydream View or Gear VR for the best experience, but Google Cardboard works fine too.

If you're using the Samsung Gear VR, you need a Samsung Galaxy smartphone. The following models are supported:

Samsung Galaxy J Series phones are not supported.


If you are using Google Cardboard, you need an Android or iOS smartphone.

  • Most recent models with a gyroscope and 4 to 6 in screens (10 to 15 cm) are supported
  • Phones a year or two older may suffer from poor frame rate, latency, and other issues
Android Requires Android 5 (Lollipop) or higher
  • To find your current Android version open Settings and then System > About device > Android version 
Apple iPhone  Recommended: iPhone 6s Plus, 6 Plus, or 7 Plus
  • Minimum: iPhone 5s or newer
  • To find your iPhone hardware model, look for the model number on the back of the phone and match it to a model.
  • iPad, iPod Touch, and other iOS devices are possible, but not recommended and not supported.
 Requires iOS 9.1 or higher
  • To find your current iOS version open Settings and then General > About > Version


If you are using Google Daydream View, you need a Daydream-ready phone.


Matterport VR App

If you are using the Samsung Gear VR, open the Oculus app on your smartphone.

If you do not have the Oculus app, insert the smartphone into the Gear VR headset and you will be prompted to download it.

Search for Matterport VR and download the app.

If you are using Cardboard with Android, open the Google Play Store

Download the Matterport VR (Cardboard) app.

If you are using Cardboard with iOS, open the App Store.
