The WiFi connection between the camera and the iPad is used for two things:
- Tell the camera to start scanning
- Transfer data from the camera to the iPad when a scan is complete
|The Matterport Pro and Pro2 3D cameras do not use Bluetooth.|
The WiFi connection has a range of about 33 or 40 ft (10 to 12 m) for the Pro2 camera and about 50 or 60 ft (15 to 18 m) for the Pro camera.
Some factors can reduce the range of the WiFi network:
- Interference from other networks on the same wireless band
- Occlusion from walls and other obstacles, depending on the thickness and type of wall.
Range is only an issue if you hide behind a wall and then start scanning. If you walk behind the camera as it rotates, then range is not a factor.
|If you do take your iPad out of range, just walk back within range and reconnect to the camera. Learn more.|
Matterport Pro2 3D Camera
The Pro2 camera transfers over the 5 GHz wireless band, not the 2.4 GHz band of the Pro. Customers who are used to the Pro camera might notice a slightly reduced range or more sensitivity to physical obstacles.
However, the camera can also transmit data faster over the 5 GHz band. This is necessary because the Pro2 captures much more visual data (4K resolution) than the Pro camera. So overall, the total transfer time should be the same or even faster than the Pro.
Just stay close to the camera (or walk behind as it rotates) and everything should be fine.
